VANCOUVER, BC, February 10, 2022 /CNW/ – Swarmio Media Holdings Inc. (CSE: SWRM) (“Swarmio” or “the Company”), an end-to-end vertically integrated gaming and esports platform that helps telecommunications carriers (“telcos”) ) and game publishers to engage and monetize gamers, today announced that it has been granted a U.S. patent (US 11,063,881 B1) for its proprietary latency-optimized Edge Computing (LEC) technology. This technology is the basis of the company’s Ember gaming platform and is branded “Swarmio Matrix”.
“LEC technology is an integral part of our gaming and esports platform by enabling our telecom partners to deliver a precision gaming experience to their subscribers. For our telecom partners, this is an integral part of attracting and long-term subscriber retention. For Swarmio Media, this is integral to attracting and retaining long-term carrier partners and Ember users,” said Swarmio CEO Vijai Karthigesu. “We also know that the technology represents major opportunities in several other fast-growing industry sectors, such as autonomous driving and metaverse applications, which rely heavily on ultra-low latency connectivity on a global scale. LEC is a solution unique and compelling platform for commercial developers in this space, and we anticipate continued growth and adoption of the platform in the months ahead.”
Edge computing is expected to become the predominant platform to support many major current and future latency-sensitive applications. This is because edge computing servers (powerful computers placed at the “edge” of a given network) are physically closer to the user than traditional cloud servers and therefore able to offer higher connectivity speed. .
Swarmio’s LEC solution uses proprietary artificial intelligence to uniquely select the optimal edge servers for the lowest latency connections between users, wherever they are in the world. Several multi-billion dollar industries (including gaming and esports, 5G edge computing, augmented reality/virtual reality, IoT, autonomous vehicles, smart cities, and metaverse applications) require lag-free performance to deliver safe, secure and optimized connected experiences. LEC addresses the current and future demands that these industries, and others, place on telecommunications networks around the world.
Failure to meet gaming latency thresholds is one of the top reasons attributed to telecommunications subscriber turnover. As an integral component of Swarmio’s Ember platform for telcos, LEC provides telco subscribers with high-performance gaming environments where gamers can participate fairly with optimized connectivity. LEC offers a significant advantage to telecom operators looking for a comprehensive gaming platform that will lead to strong brand engagement with their subscribers and higher average revenue per user.
LEC could also play a central role within the Metaverse – a persistent, online, 3D virtual environment that users can access via consumer computing and communication devices and which can be used for entertainment, socializing and business.
Due to the interactive and dynamic nature of a metaverse, providing low latency experiences to metaverse participants will be critical for telcos and metaverse developers. Although fully distributed architectures such as peer-to-peer communication can support these environments, to scale effectively, global commercial metaverses will require distributed edge computing infrastructure such as LEC. Swarmio’s US patent provides a defense if other companies attempt to replicate the company’s approach to reducing network latency.
