About Us

Spatio Metrics is an all-in-one design analysis and data visualization platform for architects who want to realize high-impact buildings within project constraints.

Unlike approaches that require designers to maintain custom scripts or struggle with Excel and PowerBI, Spatio Metrics is easy to use and backed by industry best practices so they can assess and report consistent design metrics and based on data at every iteration of every project, no. no matter how tight their deadline is.

where you stand

As a Data Science and Machine Learning Engineer/Researcher, you will develop data science and machine learning models that investigate how building design relates to health outcomes in hospitals. Working directly with our Co-Founder/CTO, you’ll help shape the direction of an early-stage startup and work towards making AI and data-driven workflows accessible to non-coders . This role is funded through an SBIR grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF).

This role is for Spring or Summer 2022, with a flexible schedule to be determined in advance.

what you gonna do

  • Research machine learning and data science systems. You will perform a literature review to identify the most relevant and advanced techniques for the task at hand.

  • Prototype, train and refine models. You will work with multiple datasets: one set of architectural data with characteristics such as privacy, natural daylight, and travel distances, and another of unidentified patient health outcome data, such as death rates and pain medication claims.

  • Test and evaluate models. You will develop workflows to systematically evaluate the effectiveness of each model and summarize your recommendations based on the results.

  • Lay the groundwork for product integration. Together with our software development team, you will advise on opportunities and best practices for integrating ML models into future product development.

What we are looking for

  • Masters or PhD (may be a current student) with advanced courses in data science and machine learning

  • Demonstrated experience with ML frameworks (Tensorflow, Keras, Pytorch or similar) and multiple ML algorithms (i.e. regression, classification, clustering, dimensionality reduction, neural networks, etc.)

  • Experience with Python

  • Ability to understand recent ML research papers and summarize results for a non-technical audience

  • Located and eligible to work in the United States

  • Flexible, team player – you will be an essential member of a small team!

  • Curiosity, keeping abreast of the latest developments and eager to learn new technologies

Bonus points

  • History of published research

  • Experience with causal inference

  • Experience or interest in building architecture, design, simulation or performance

  • Experience or interest in computer vision

  • Experience in interactive data visualization and/or front-end development (React, javascript)

  • Experience with C#, Grasshopper, Revit API

If this sounds like you, send a cover letter, resume, and links to 2-3 relevant projects to with the subject line “Data Science & Machine Learning Researcher Application.” We look forward to hearing from you!
